Hyperfine Interactions in the Heavy Fermion CeMIn5 Systems
نویسنده
چکیده
The CeMIn5 heavy fermion compounds have attracted enormous interest since their discovery six years ago. These materials exhibit a rich spectrum of unusual correlated electron behavior, and may be an ideal model for the high temperature superconductors. As many of these systems are either antiferromagnets, or lie close to an antiferromagnetic phase boundary, it is crucial to understand the behavior of the dynamic and static magnetism. Since neutron scattering is difficult in these materials, often the primary source of information about the magnetic fluctuations is Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR). Therefore, it is crucial to have a detailed understanding of how the nuclear moments interact with conduction electrons and the local moments present in these systems. Here we present a detailed analysis of the hyperfine coupling based on anisotropic hyperfine coupling tensors between nuclear moments and local moments. Because the couplings are symmetric with respect to bond axes rather than crystal lattice directions, the nuclear sites can experience non-vanishing hyperfine fields even in high symmetry sites. Breakdown of the Fermi liquid theory in heavy fermion compounds
We review the anomalous properties of heavy fermion compounds like CeCu6−xAux or CeMIn5 close to a zero temperature phase transition called a quantum critical point. Anomalous behavior of the resistivity, specific heat and magnetic properties observed in various compounds suggests a fundamental breakdown of the Fermi liquid theory. Recent measurements on YbRh2Si2, field-tuned through the quantu...
متن کاملDivergence of the Grüneisen Parameter and Magnetocaloric Effect at Heavy Fermion Quantum Critical Points
At any pressure sensitive quantum critical point (QCP) the thermal expansion is more singular than the specific heat leading to a divergence of the Grüneisen parameter. For a magnetic field sensitive QCP, the complementary property is the magnetic Grüneisen ratio which equals the magnetocaloric effect. Here we use both properties to investigate magnetic QCPs in different heavy fermion (HF) meta...

Quantum phases and fluctuations in correlated electron systems with frustration and competing interactions are reviewed. In the localized moment case the S=1/2 J1 - J2 - model on a square lattice exhibits a rich phase diagram with magnetic as well as exotic hidden order phases due to the interplay of frustration and quantum fluctuations. Their signature in magnetocaloric quantities and the hig...

It is a common knowledge that the formation of electron pairs is a necessary ingredient of any theoretical work describing superconductivity. Thus, finding the mechanism of the formation of the electron pairs is of utmost importance. There are some experiments on high transition temperature superconductors which support the electron-phonon (e-ph) interactions as the pairing mechanism (ARPES),...
متن کاملQuasi-particle interference of heavy fermions in resonant x-ray scattering
Resonant x-ray scattering (RXS) has recently become an increasingly important tool for the study of ordering phenomena in correlated electron systems. Yet, the interpretation of RXS experiments remains theoretically challenging because of the complexity of the RXS cross section. Central to this debate is the recent proposal that impurity-induced Friedel oscillations, akin to quasi-particle inte...
